Issa Rae - Thanks for joining the party. They show doesn't have any comedians just one comedic actor. They will need more than just black folks to keep them afloat.
Max Reddick - I wouldn't put a black show on basic television. If you want your show to survive go to Cable: TNT, Showtime, AMC, HBO, Bravo, and the list goes on....They build strong followings.
I'm with you guys... I hope that I hope... but I know this kinda thing doesn't last long. No, I change that, I hope this show is better than cosby, makes money like sienfeld, funnier than family guy and runs as long as the simpsons. There I found some positive energy, damn that was hard to muster for a tv show!
Kiss My Black Ads - Thanks for rolling thru. Send all your positive vibes to the show because they will need it. I will say Fox (not Fox news) is a step up from the CW.
If they can tap into the same audience of UPNs The Game, and TBS Tyler Perrys meet the Browns, they may have a chance. The premise is realistic, and I'll give them kudos for giving CC Pounder and D Chill Mitchell roles, Darrly can cross over to the ADA audience as well! I get tired of black folks complaining of quality programming and representation, this appears to be a middle class family with values, so before I pass judgement...I watch several episodes. Better than reruns on TVone and BET!
Looks like a good show and good premis. But, I'm with Issa Rae, this is from the same network that debuted "Married...With Children," "The Simpsons," "Family Guy" and all other kinds of garbage.
Granted I laugh my ass off weekly to many of these shows....
...I doubt Fox has a strong black viewership that would sustain this show. Moreover, if my memory is correct, Fox is the only network that's never really had a black show. Not to mention in an era where most younger kids don't even know what a situation-comedy really is, I hope this works for AT LEAST a season.
Meanwhile, I'm starting my petition to bring "The Game" back to CW.
Licoln Perry - That Tyler Perry Demographic is an odd one. Their comic tastes are very different from the mainstream. They put Meet The Browns on the same level that white folks put Cheers on??? TV one showing Waiting to Exhale...not good But TV one does have some potential but Cathy Hughes has got to stop interviewing Entertainers. She comes off like a star struck high school girl.
Debo Blue - Missed you....the game has heated up since you left.
Uppity - CW finally put The Game out of it's misery? I never liked the show but they did The Game and Everybody hates Chris wrong. You can't put shows with all black casts on Friday night!!! HBO knows how to do it.. The Wire....Sundays The #1 Womans Detective Agency....Sundays. The other good night is Thursdays.
It will not last the whole season! Nothing about it made me laugh or even figure out when it comes on! This may eventually become a platform where they can showcase how they really feel about black people...I just HOPE i'm wrong about this!
@Citizen Ojo A friend of mine explained the FOX angle, apparently the character that plays the NFL star is a FOX sports commentator and actual former NFL star, that leverage his influence to get this show. FOX, is banking on pulling in some of that demographic. Ojo dont discount that audience that watches shows like the Game and Meet the Browns, they will turn into this show as well. Its the highbrow and highed intellects that dont watch these shows!
Lincoln Perry - You bring up a good point. Actually it sounds like a subject to blog about. There is a split with black folks when it comes to comedy. I noticed though, when it comes to Tyler Perry it boils down to class groups. I've heard that Tyler Perry promotes the class warfare in his movies but I don't see it. But you can tell something is their. It's the quote "highbrow and highed intellects" against the blue collar folks. Very interesting...
Strahan and Chill got show with Appolo Creed? On Fox? I might have worked if it follwed the Bernie Mac show or Everybody Hates Chris (Okay, that's the CW - but still a good show.). They need to build a block of shows so that eveyone knows to watch Fox on any one given night.
Sadly, it's about the only show with black leads on the air. Gonna have to pull for it (although, I could rant for an hour how networks seem fine with casting unknown white actors into shows, but feel the need to put rappers and/or athletes into black shows).

As happy that I am that Fox is TRYING to employ black actors, this preview looks too sentimental to appeal to the mainstream that is FOX's audience.
I smell early cancellation.
Looks intriguing. I see a lot of familiar faces. Worth taking a look at. However, I concur with Issa Rae. This show on Fox network? Looks doomed.

The show looks good if they try to keep it real, not Hollywoody.
Boy have I missed some great posts! You are hilarious!!
