When I was in elementary school, I had the bright idea to start a newspaper. I didn’t write about social issues and other important topics of the day. My newspaper ended up being a gossip mag. It caused a lot of trouble with my fellow students, because no one likes their business in the streets. I did learn one important thing from the whole experience. Smut, Sex, Lies, and Rumors sell like hotcakes!! I also learned that it’s a distraction when you have nothing to talk about.
The Republicans are running the biggest con game in America right now. The sad part is that the American people are falling for it. Senator Obama is always saying that the American people are smarter than that, but I don’t buy it. This is the same country that made Paris Hilton a star. The Republicans are running on, and running from President Bush’s record. After eight years of foolishness, Senator McCain can’t run on the issues. He realized his best plan was to create a mass distraction and by the mainstream media’s observation it’s working.
I don’t know how valid these polls are, because we don’t know if all ages, races, and ethnicities are being counted. The media (television and print) have proven that they aren’t above the madness. In a year when newspapers are laying off employees, the print industry is having a hard time staying relevant. Most people are getting their news from the internet these days (i.e.… internet media, John Stewart and Bloggers). The 6:00pm and 6:30pm television news anchors are looking like relics of the past. I am probably the only person in my age group that I know who still watches the 6 – 7pm news. The Media has to do something to keep you coming back. They have to keep their relevance in a digital world.
Enter: Governor Sarah “The Barracuda” Palin. McCain’s advisors knew that only a WOMAN would be able to go up against Obama (Thanks Hillary!!!). Don’t think for a moment that McCain was slick enough to come up with this pick. This guy just found out what Google was!!! Gov. Sarah Palin causes a problem for Obama because the Republicans can yell SEXISM!!! A black man + a white woman + sexism = black man in trouble!!!!!!!!
The Pig and the Lipstick debacle is the latest maneuver from the McCain camp. The McCain campaign would like for you to believe that Obama called Palin a pig. Keep in mind that one of McCain’s former advisors, Torie Clarke, had a book titled Lipstick on a Pig. Also keep in mind that McCain has used the same expression before. This was not the first time McCain has heard this before. But now it’s a slight against a woman…………………..For Real?
Instead of sticking to the issues, the media would rather keep the foolishness going. Now we have to watch Obama defend himself (AGAIN) against another sexism smear. It is obvious that the Republicans want to run on personality rather than issues. And it is also obvious that the media wants to report this popularity contest. Palin is running for Vice President and we know nothing about her. The Republicans won’t let you talk to her and she keeps giving the same stump speech “and I said thanks but no thanks to the bridge to nowhere.” Woman, is that bridge all that you can talk about?
With all these issues that must be tackled by the next administration, this coverage has turned into an episode of General Hospital. It appears that I’m going to have to start watching John Stewart to get my news. Edward R. Murrow must be rolling in his grave right now.

I agree, the race isn't between Republicans and Democrats - It's between Leave It to Beaver and The Cosby Show.
Maybe it'll get better when the debates start.
