July was a big month for black folks. We had the CNN Black in America special that was going to show America the lives of African Americans. This was going to be an event of gigantic proportions. As Citizen Wifey’s friend would say “An Extravaganza”
Instead of bringing America together, the special pissed off black and white folks. Black folks were mad because they felt they weren’t portrayed in a positive light. White folks posted racist words to the CNN Black in America site. I thought my fellow black female bloggers were going to pull a drive by on Soledad O’Brien. I’ve noticed that I haven’t seen her since the special came out. I guess she is in the TV anchor witness protection program. In all the grand advertising for this special, we missed Traces of the Trade: A story from the Deep North on PBS. I think we can come to the conclusion that you can’t talk about black folks in 4 hours. Realistically, you have to give at least give 2 hours to Old Dirty Bastard, R Kelly and Rick James.
Marion Jones was doing the Anne Frank writing thing behind bars. It’s good to see her doing something constructive with her time. She sent word to President Bush requesting an early release i.e. Clemency. At one time she might have been the fastest woman in the world, but she sure is the slowest in picking men. That’s partly the reason she is doing her 6 month bid. Running with the wrong dudes and being introduced to the wrong stuff. She must didn’t watch any of those ABC after school specials growing up. I don’t know what the fuss is anyway it’s only 6 months. Like they say on The Wire, “there are only two days in prison, the day you come in and the day you leave.”
Ludacris joined the long list of black folks that Barack Obama has to apologize for. He came out with a song called “Politics.” I guess he was gearing up for the fall election and wanted to show his love for Obama.
Let’s look at some choice lyrics from his new jam -
Better yet put him in office, make me your vice president Hillary hated on you, so that b^$&%* is irrelevant
so get off you’re a**, black people, it's time to get out and vote!paint the White House black and I'm sure that's got 'em terrifiedMcCain don't belong in ANY chair unless he's paralyzed
Can you believe black folks are really upset about this? Who did you think Luda was Francis Scott Key? Ludacris has made money off of songs with the titles “P**** Poppin”, “Move B*****”, “Pimpin’ all over the world”, “Hoes in my room”, “Ho”, and everyone’s favorite “Area Codes” where the chorus goes “I got Hoes in different area codes”. Someone should have told him that you can’t call white women a B**** in your songs. That’s a No! No! They’ll let you talk about black women all day, but not white women. It’s in his recording contract at the bottom in small print.
We don’t need to talk about Rev. Jesse Jackson because everything has already been said. I just can’t believe they buried the “N” word and then dug it right back up. Kramer is somewhere calling all of us the “N” word because Jesse guilted him into apologizing for using it.
Ron Artest, another fine young African America role model for our youth, was at it again. His explanation for his odd behavior he says “It’s because he’s ghetto.” I’m glad he cleared that up with an intelligent and articulate explanation. I thought he was as the old folks say “Touched” and he couldn’t help himself. It’s good that we know the truth now.
The grand moment of the month came from a report out of New York City. A man was murdered because he danced with a woman at a party. Now I really feel better that I stood on the wall at my middle school dances. God forbid if I knew how to dance I might have ended up being a target.
The month of July will be one for the books. I can’t wait to see what we do in August to top this month.
