Who said that Too Short wasn’t a family man?

Last week I learned a few things. I learned America is so broke (no surprise) that flying into space will have to be outsourced. I learned Oprah was allegedly involved with a white man (no surprise – but if you have a joke please insert here ________________). I also learned that there is nothing like the bond between a mother and daughter.

How one of the best modern day soul singers is blowing his life away….literally!!!

This past weekend R&B singer D’Angelo was knocked by the cops for soliciting a prostitute for oral sex.

Side Note: How does a man go from getting it for free to paying $40 dollars for it?.....But I digress.

The prostitute was an undercover policewoman for the New York City police department. What was D’Angelo doing in NYC anyway? I thought he would have been on probation from his previous troubles with the law i.e. marijuana possession and a DUI. Why does this man keep getting into trouble? Why can’t he put out a classic like his first two albums? This is frustrating as an admirer of his work. I was listening to his first album “Brown Sugar” when no one else knew who this cat was. It was extra special because we are both from Virginia. His success was a source of pride for folks in the state. Even Citizen Daddy was rocking D’Angelo’s music in his car. I swore to anybody that would listen that D’Angelo was going to change the game!!! Then something happened. I don’t know but after his second album things went haywire. Why are all the talented musicians crazy as cat dookie??? Rick James, Ike Turner, and yes even R Kelly (He who wears a mask in public). If they aren’t locking up women in their basement, they are beating and pissing on them. Apparently D’Angelo has decided to take all the abuse out on himself. In the process, we are possibly losing what would have been a musical legend. This dude needs help. Even if he doesn’t want to save his career, I hope he at least attempts to save himself.

Bringing in the New Year with something Old.

Every New Year some lady makes the news by having the first baby of the year. It’s a silly American tradition that lets some family get 15 minutes of fame for having sex 9 months earlier. Well without further ado – Congrats to Luzerne County Pennsylvania’s 2010 baby, Xavier Pope. The baby was delivered at 3:22pm on January 3rd with a weight of 7 pounds, 14 ounces. Wow!! 7 pounds!! He was heavy… Don’t mind me, I always equate baby weight to a bag of Sugar (roughly 5 pounds). Don’t Judge Me!!


Anyway, this is the 3rd baby for the mother Leda Pope. The 17 year old mother currently has a 2 and 1 year old. Screeeeech!!! Did someone say 17 year old mother? Yep, you betcha!!! This girl (she lost woman status because she’s not 21) has 3 children and is still a teenager. What is wrong with this picture? Opps…my bad. I forgot the times have changed.


We are so accustomed to our youth having babies that we don’t even think about it. We turn a blind eye to it and hope that it never touches our homes. Some of us have relatives that fall under the “Teen Mother” category. How many of us have 40 year old Great Grandmothers in our families? Can you say the word EPIDEMIC!!!


Do you know how I know that we don’t care anymore? The story was in print and online and not one word about her being too young to be a mother. As a MAN, do you know what bothered me the most about this birth? The Father, Boyfriend, Baby Daddy, Sperm Donor was not even mentioned. It was as if she became pregnant by the Immaculate Conception. This is a complete mess but who do you blame? How do you stop an epidemic when you don’t know you’re sick?

Chairman Steele half stepping at the Mecca: The story of a Black Republican trying to get some hometown love.

Republican National Chairman Michael Steele came back to the “hood” on Tuesday to speak at Historically Black Howard University. The event is part of his comeback tour…..oops…I mean his “Freedom Tour.” This is where he goes around talking about what the Republicans stand for in this new “Post Racial” America. I guess he decided to try it out on black folks as a test run. He talked about his past attempts to use street vinacular in order to show a bridge between Republicans and Black Folks. Citizen Ojo says: Wrong Move!!! He also tried to tell the students to reach for their dreams. Because if he could make it, they could make it too (remember he is from “Da Hood.”) Citizen Ojo says: Terrible Move!!!



"For a while, I thought his point was to, like, encourage black people, to be an all-inspiring, 'You can do this too, we're already in college. There are people I left behind who need that. Most of the people who come here were coming specifically to hear about the GOP side" of politics -- not to hear a motivational talk.

It turned into one of those situations where Steele had to ask himself “how did things turn so wrong so fast?” The tour turned into a typical drama filled Health Care Town Hall Event. But unlike the reports from the 6pm and 11pm local news, the perpetrators weren’t young unruly uneducated under classed black men and their bombastic belligerent baby mommas. It was some white chick that caused the ruckus!!! I guess she got around all those black folks and decided to get her “Courage On.” Amanda Duzak ended up giving Steele the business (or as it’s spelled in Urban Diction “The Bizness”) and eventually was escorted out of the room. Not before Steele had to throw in his 2 cents though.





It is apparent that the students were ready for a serious debate. But it was ruined by the chaos that is breaking out all over the country. Duzak, maybe with good intentions/maybe not so good intentions, took the event to another level. Some of the students at Howard didn’t like her stealing the spotlight as well.

One of the few chances us young black folk had to get the ear of someone in government was ruined by party crashers who claim to be making their voices heard, but in reality did nothing but silence the rest of ours. So what do you think would have made the news? Twenty-something black college students showed up in droves for something other than a Li’l Wayne concert, but the air time will probably go to the white lady who was shouting until her face turned red. Thanks a lot, ma’am.”

It would have been nice for America to see a debate/forum with positive discourse. I’m biased but I would like to see that at an HBCU.

(Side note: Citizen Ojo and Citizen Wifey went to an HBCU)

I also would have liked it if Steele came with a real game plan. After all these years and Republicans still don’t know how to talk to black folks!!! What’s makes it worse was that it was a black person talking to black folks. I guess it is true when they say you can’t go home again.

Wow!! I see why he was in a hurry.....

Senator McCain, please tell me you knew this guy was a fraud. Even in your elderly years you can’t be this slow???

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (née Joe the Plumber) of Toledo, Ohio isn’t really a plumber, and he isn’t licensed by Toledo, Lucas County or the State of Ohio. Also the local United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters & Service Mechanices of Toledo issued a statement saying that Joe hasn’t even started apprenticeship training.

Joe the Plumber is also a registered Republican….mmm.. that must be how McCain knew about him -(wink) (wink).

Joe lied to Obama and told him that he wanted to buy the business that he worked for. He said that the business earned $250,000 to $280,000 annually. The math on this seems kinda fuzzy. I wonder how an Assistant Plumber can buy his employers business making $40,000 a year? He also has that pesky problem with the State of Ohio. The Ohio Department of Taxation placed a $1,183 personal property tax lien on him.

So my question to Joe the Plumber, an unlicensed employee of Newell Plumbing & Heating, is who are you really? You dropped from a Plumber to Assistant Plumber. You make less money than you originally claimed. You received 15 mins of fame for being a fraud. You wasted hours of debate time with the candidates bringing up your name. You even referred to Obama tap dancing like “Sammy Davis Jr”. You prejudiced phony accidental Plumber. Poof be gone…..
