R.I.P. to Ivan Dixon

I was saddened to hear the news about the passing of Ivan Dixon. Mr. Dixon was on one of the great American comedies, Hogan Heroes, playing the role of James “Kinch” Kinchloe. He also directed the classic underground film "The Spook Who Sat by the Door." Don’t expect any remakes with Will Smith playing the main character. Hollywood is afraid to make movies like that. I can only hope that his body of work will be remembered as the years go by.

His honors include four NAACP Image Awards, the National Black Theatre Award and the Paul Robeson Pioneer Award from the Black American Cinema Society. He was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Directors Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild of America and the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.
